The Department of State Services (DSS) has called for vigilance and cooperation from Nigerians during the Eid-El-Fitr celebration. The service previously urged citizens on March 4, 2024, to be vigilant against public dangers, particularly Improvised Explosive Devices, advising them to stay informed about potential threats and avoid crowded or suspicious areas.

In a statement reported by PunchNews on Tuesday, the Director of PR and Strategic Communications, DSS, Peter Afunanya, assured Nigerians that the service would collaborate with other security agencies to ensure citizens' security during the festive period. He emphasized the need for everyone to be security conscious and report any suspicious activities to security and law enforcement organizations.

Furthermore, Afunanya congratulated Muslims across the country for the completion of the fasting and prayers, expressing the DSS's desire to celebrate the Eid-El-Fitr festival with the Muslim Ummah. He acknowledged the peaceful completion of Ramadan as a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims worldwide.

Afunanya highlighted the core values of Eid-El-Fitr, including love, mercy, and compassion, which resonate deeply with the ideals of peace, harmony, and generosity fundamental to the country's collective good. He urged everyone to celebrate responsibly, exemplify the true essence of the event, and strive for common humanity based on harmonious coexistence, a good conscience, and neighbourliness.

Additionally, the DSS admonished citizens to carry forward the spirit of charity, empathy, and unity beyond the festivities and abstain from any acts capable of undermining these principles. This call to uphold core values and foster unity aligns with the spirit of Eid-El-Fitr and contributes to a peaceful and harmonious celebration for all Nigerians.

Overall, the message from the DSS emphasizes the importance of vigilance, collaboration, and adherence to core values during the Eid-El-Fitr celebration. It underscores the collective responsibility of Nigerians to ensure security and promote unity and mutual respect in society.
