According to Wikipedia.com, “the history of mathematics deals with the origin of discoveries in mathematics and the mathematical methods and notation of the past. Before the modern age and the worldwide spread of knowledge, written examples of new mathematical developments have come to light only in a few locales”. However, mathematics is highly significant to all classes of life and profession this brought us to look at the branches which make up mathematics. Mathematics is broadly divided into pure mathematics and applied mathematics. Among the principal branches of mathematics are algebra, analysis, arithmetic, combinatorics, Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries, game theory, number theory, numerical analysis, optimization, probability, set theory, statistics, topology, and trigonometry. Then what is mathematics?
According to Merriam-Webster.com, Mathematics
is the science that is concerned with numbers and their properties, relations,
and operations and with shapes in space and their structure and measurement.
Applied mathematics is which can be applied to
real-world problems. Some of the most popular Applied Mathematics sub-disciplines are Mathematical Biology, Combinatorics, Mathematical Finance, Applied
Analysis, Topography, Computational Neuroscience, Probability, Risk, and Statistics,
Mathematical Psychology, etc.
Mathematical psychology is a branch of
psychology focusing on the use of mathematical and computational models to
explain and predict human behaviour. Typical areas of interest
are memory, attention, problem-solving, perception, decision-making, and motor
control.
Let us do these simple calculations together:
Assuming each letter of the English alphabet is represented in numbers, thus;

It is worth noting that, assumptions
are the foci for any theory and thus any paradigm. It
is important to make assumptions explicit and to make a sufficient number of
assumptions to describe the phenomenon at hand. Explication of assumptions is
even more crucial in research methods used to test the theories.
Using the above table the following words will be tested to see
their Mathematical psychological significance: hard
work, knowledge, love, luck, laziness, money, education, leadership, enjoyment
and attitude.

This is becoming more
interesting! You will discover that most of the fascinating words which you and
I are aspiring for on daily basis had a sum-up score below 100%. Words like
- hard work, knowledge, love, luck, laziness,
money, education, leadership, and enjoyment. But attitude gave an accurate sum-up of a score of 100%.
Going further let us
look into words like – President, Governor and senator and see what the score
will be?

Wao! President scores 110% meaning a position with more expectation
and tasking. Yes, we all know that position is filled with more responsibility
and not a lazy one’s position. The governor on the other hand also had a score
above 100% and above that of the President too by 14%.
In the case of the Senator, the percentage sum-up score is just 92 it
is a good score that is an excellent mark too.
Laziness! What are you thinking? We all know to be lazy is a bad
habit, the English people used to say, “There is no food for a lazy man”. And am
sure it is now a general saying.
Above all anything worth doing or worth aspiring for in life
one's ATTITUDE towards it are very important. Attitude to work, attitude to
education, knowledge, gift, love, opportunities, religion, relationship, and leadership position, just to mention a few.
Please read more on attitude…
