Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna
State has announced a significant increase in cash donations to the State
COVID-19 fund, which have now risen to N1.26 billion. This update was shared by
the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Muyiwa Adekeye.
Expressing his gratitude, Governor
El-Rufai acknowledged the generous contributions from individuals, firms, and
agencies. “Many of the donors have kindly responded to the government’s stated
preference for donations in kind. Others have also made their donations in cash
and in kind,” El-Rufai stated.
This latest figure nearly doubles
the N641 million reported in the governor’s first update on cash donations to
the state government. The substantial increase in donations underscores the
collective effort to support Kaduna State’s fight against the COVID-19
pandemic.
Governor El-Rufai also expressed
his appreciation for the contributions made by political appointees and all
public servants in the state. He highlighted the importance of community
support, noting that even small donations from citizens reflect the strong
spirit of charity. “The government thanked citizens who have donated sums like
N10, N100, and N1000, noting that this gesture demonstrates that the spirit of
charity is strong even in those who do not have much,” he added.
To ensure transparency and
encourage further contributions, the full list of donors has been posted on the
state government’s website and will be updated regularly.
The governor’s acknowledgement of
donations from across different sectors and levels of society highlights the
collaborative effort required to tackle the pandemic. As the state continues to
battle COVID-19, these contributions will be crucial in funding healthcare
initiatives, providing relief to those affected, and supporting preventative
measures.
Governor El-Rufai’s administration remains committed to effectively utilizing the funds and ensuring that all donations are directed towards mitigating the impact of the virus on Kaduna State’s residents. The continued support from donors will play a vital role in strengthening the state’s response to the ongoing health crisis.
